On december 8th, 2011 I did my license exam in the Netherlands (aced it
) and got my license. Later in December 2011, I registered my callsign, got my papers and from then on I was making the airwaves “unsafe” with my Yaesu FT-897D and Yaesu FT-817nd.
Although I haven’t done any SOTA and IOTA I’m very much interested in doing this so in the near future I will be towing the Yeasu FT-817nd and a Hy End Fed antenna for the 10, 15 and 20m with me in a backpack during our vacations. My first test runs in nature I did already and they were quite promising! Made some nice contacts with only 5 watts! The first contact was with Russia which was 2500km (1550 miles) from where I was!
Right now I first need to set up a good working HAM Shack and find the “perfect” antenna!.
My Shack in April 2012:
I got my “new” (secondhand) Yaesu FT-950! I wanted a base station with more bells and whistles and the FT-950 looked like the right way to go! It will be a replacement of my FT-897 that I was using as a base station.
My handhelds for the 2m and 70cm are not in the picture below but I’m still using them, mostly in the car now. The FT-817 is also my VHF/UHF rig for now.
